This Week in Sport: 20th February − 26th February 2023

The last full week in February looks to serve up some excellent sporting entertainment worldwide. On Monday, the New York Rangers host the Winnipeg Jets in the NHL, Tuesday sees Liverpool take on Real Madrid in the first leg of their Round of 16 match in the Champions League, and Wednesday is Day 4 of the Dubai Tennis Championships on the WTA tour.

Thursday will see a huge match in the Europa League when Barcelona travel to Old Trafford to play Manchester United in the second leg of their tie. Friday sees the start of Super Rugby with the Crusaders playing the Chiefs and the Six Nations is back on Saturday with Wales facing England. Sunday is the perfect end to a sporting week with the Women’s T20 Final taking place at Newlands.

NHL: New York Rangers v Winnipeg Jets

UEFA Champions League: Liverpool v Real Madrid

Current Champions League champions, Real Madrid, will be looking to continue their campaign to retain their title in this first leg match in Liverpool. The second leg of the Round of 16 will be played in Madrid on 15th March.

WTA Tour: Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships Day 4

Wednesday will see the start of the third Round of the Dubai Tennis Championships. Fresh off a win at the Qatar Open, World number One Iga Świątek will be keen to continue to assert her dominance on the WTA tour.

UEFA Europa League: Manchester United v Barcelona

Old Trafford, Manchester

After a 2-2 draw in the first leg match in Barcelona, both teams will be desperate to get the upper hand in the second leg. On current form this tie feels worthy of the Champions League knockout stages. Whoever wins will go through to the Round of 16 of Europa League.

Super Rugby: Crusaders v Chiefs

Friday 24th February 6:05AM GMT/7:05PM Local Time

Orangetheory Stadium, Christchurch

Friday will see the start of the new Super Rugby season. Professional Rugby Union clubs from Australia and New Zealand as well a team from Fiji and a combined Pacific Islands team all play against each other for the title. The Crusaders, based in Christchurch are the current champions.

Six Nations: Wales v England

Saturday 25th February 4:45PM GMT/4:45PM Local Time

Principality Stadium, Cardiff

After losing to Ireland and Scotland in their first two games of the Six Nations championship, Welsh fans will be hoping that their team can produce a different result this week. With both England and Wales getting used to new management and coaching styles, this match is set to be an exciting one with both teams desperate for a win.

Women's T20 World Cup: Final: TBC v TBC

Sunday 26th February 4:00PM GMT/6:00PM Local Time

Newlands Cricket Ground, Cape Town

Sunday is the Final of the Women’s T20 World Cup. Semifinals will take place on Thursday and Friday to decide who will face each other in the Final. Currently, England and favourites Australia are unbeaten in the group stages and if those two teams were to meet on Sunday it would make for a great Final.
