Aston Villa Football Club is one of England’s most historic football teams, founded in Birmingham in 1874 and known to supporters as the Villans. The club competes in the Premier League and plays its home matches at Villa Park, a landmark stadium in the Aston district with a capacity of more than 42,000. Villa’s honours include seven English league titles, seven FA Cups, five League Cups and the 1982 European Cup, won with a 1–0 victory over Bayern Munich. The club also lifted the UEFA Super Cup in 1982, establishing a notable record in European football. Aston Villa’s claret-and-blue colours are recognised by fans around the world, while its long history has featured celebrated players such as Peter Withe, Paul McGrath, Gareth Barry and Jack Grealish.
