This Week in Sport: 5th June − 11th June 2023

There are some huge sporting events coming up this week. On Monday, the Vegas Golden Knights host the Florida Panthers in Game 2 of the NHL Stanley Cup Finals, Tuesday sees the exciting Isle of Man TT head into its third race day, and the ICC World Test Championship Final between Australia and India begins on Wednesday. The Tampa Bay Rays take on the Minnesota Twins in Game 3 of their series in the MLB on Thursday, and on Friday, the Diamond League heads to France.

Going into the weekend, the UEFA Champions League Final will take place on Saturday, with Manchester City and Inter Milan heading to İstanbul. And the final day of the French Open takes place on Sunday.

NHL: Vegas Golden Knights v Florida Panthers

The Vegas Golden Knights will take on the Florida Panthers on Monday in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals. The Golden Knights put in an impressive performance in Game 1, defeating their opponents 5-2 and are looking extremely strong. However the Panthers will be confident of their quality after winning the Eastern Conference Finals 4-0 and will be hoping to level the series this time out.

Motorcycle Road Racing: Isle of Man TT Race Day 3

The famous Isle of Man TT is well underway, and Tuesday sees the event head into Race Day 3. The event sees motorcycle racers take on one of the most dangerous circuits in motorsport for a week of qualifying and a week of racing. Top riders to watch out for across the race week include Michael Dunlop, John McGuinness, and Peter Hickman.

ICC World Test Championship: Australia v India - Day 1

On Wednesday, the second ICC World Test Championship Final gets underway, as Australia and India head to the Oval. Australia will be aiming for a win on English soil in preparation for the upcoming Ashes series, while India, who took part in the inaugural Final of this competition, will be hoping for a different outcome from last time, where they lost to New Zealand. This is sure to be an entertaining Test match.

MLB: Tampa Bay Rays v Minnesota Twins

On Thursday, the Tampa Bay Rays take on the Minnesota Twins in Game 3 of their MLB series. The Rays are currently topping the American League East Division, whilst the Twins are also sitting at the peak of the American League Central Division, so this is sure to be a high-quality series that you won’t want to miss.

Diamond League: Diamond League France

Friday 9th June 12:00PM GMT/2:00PM Local Time

Stade Charléty, Paris

The Diamond League heads to France this week, as some of the world’s best athletes gather in Paris. Events to look out for include the Men’s 2 Miles, where 1500m Olympic champion and 5000m world champion, Jakob Ingebrigtsen, will be pushing to break the world record in this event. Also keep an eye on the Women’s 400m, where world-record holder in the 400m hurdles, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, and Olympic silver medallist Marileidy Paulino will take to the track.

UEFA Champions League: Manchester City v Inter Milan

On Saturday, the biggest competition in European club football takes place, as Manchester City take on Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League Final. City go into the game as most people’s favourites, after securing the Premier League and FA Cup domestically. Inter Milan themselves have won the Coppa Italia this season, so will be confident in their own ability going into this game. Who do you think will lift this coveted trophy?

Grand Slam (Tennis): French Open (Day 15)

Stade Roland Garros, Paris

The final day of the French Open is on Sunday, with the Men’s Singles Final and Women’s Doubles Final taking place. The Women’s Singles come to an end on Saturday. Current favourites for the men’s title, Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz are both through to the Quarterfinals, and women’s favourite, Iga Świątek, looks well positioned to defend her title at this tournament.
