This Week in Sport: 3rd April − 9th April 2023

The first week of April will see some tantalising sporting events occur across the globe. On Monday, the conclusion of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament, as San Diego State take on Connecticut. Tuesday sees Chelsea and Liverpool clash in the Premier League, and on Wednesday, the Los Angeles Clippers face off against rivals, the Los Angeles Lakers. On Thursday, the first ever Women’s Finalissima takes place, as England and Brazil battle it out for supremacy.
On Friday, Leicester Tigers head to Dublin to face Leinster in the European Rugby Champions Cup Quarterfinals. Heading into the weekend, on Saturday Alex Pereira will defend his title against Israel Adesanya at UFC 287, and the final day of the prestigious Masters Tournament takes place on Sunday.
NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament: San Diego State v Connecticut

The end of March Madness is upon us this Monday, as San Diego State and Connecticut battle it out for the Championship at the NRG Stadium in Houston. San Diego come off the back of two final-minute winners in their previous two games, showing they can handle the pressure of big moments. Connecticut, however, go into this matchup as many people’s favourites, and will be looking to achieve their fifth NCAA title. This is sure to be an exciting game.
Premier League: Chelsea v Liverpool

Liverpool travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea on Tuesday. Both sides have been relatively out of form this season in comparison to their own high standards, but with the level of world class talent on display, there is no doubt that this should be an entertaining affair.
NBA: Los Angeles Clippers v Los Angeles Lakers

An all-Californian affair in the NBA on Wednesday, as the Los Angeles Clippers take on the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference. The sides are currently only separated by fine margins in the standings, and a win for the Lakers would see them leapfrog the Clippers.
Finalissima: England Women v Brazil Women

Wembley Stadium, London
The first ever Women’s Finalissima takes place between European champions England and Copa América Femenina champions Brazil at Wembley. England have home-advantage but will face an extremely tough match against the South American side, who have won eight out of nine Copa América titles. This is sure to be a high-quality match that you won’t want to miss.
European Rugby Champions Cup: Leinster Rugby v Leicester Tigers

Friday sees the beginning of the European Rugby Champions Cup Quarterfinals, as Leicester Tigers travel to Dublin to face Leinster Rugby at the Aviva Stadium. Leinster are looking for their record-equalling fifth title this year, but are without talisman Johnny Sexton, while Leicester will be targeting their third title.
UFC: UFC 287: Pereira v Adesanya 2

Miami-Dade Arena, Miami
On Saturday, UFC Middleweight Champion Alex Pereira will defend his title against Israel Adesanya. The first match saw Pereira claim the belt via knockout in the fifth round of the fight in November last year. Adesanya will be determined to regain the title and restore his position at the top of the Middleweight rankings.
Major Championships (Golf): Masters Tournament Day 4
Sunday 9th April 2:00PM GMT/10:00AM Local Time
Augusta National Golf Course, Augusta
The final day of the prestigious Masters Tournament will occur on Sunday, as the world’s best golfers battle it out for the famed green jacket at the Augusta National Golf Course. Scottie Scheffler will be looking to retain his title at this year’s tournament, with Rory McIlroy hoping he can finally clinch the only Major he is yet to win. Jon Rahm is also amongst the favourites in this year’s competition.
