Women’s Cricket World Cup: India v Sri Lanka
Tuesday 30th September 9:30AM GMT/3:00PM Local
Assam Cricket Association Stadium, Guwahati
India face Sri Lanka in the opening match of the Women’s Cricket World Cup at the Assam Cricket Association Stadium in Guwahati. India, hosting the tournament for the fourth time, will be hoping that their strong form - 10 wins in 14 ODI matches played this year - can carry them to a maiden World Cup title. India’s Pratika Rawal will be a key piece of any success the co-hosts are able to find. Meanwhile, first-time hosts Sri Lanka will be hoping that history is set to repeat itself, given that their best finishes have both occurred during India-hosted World Cups. The Sri Lankan squad is incredibly diverse, ranging from the tournament’s oldest player, 40-year-old Udeshika Prabodhani, to two up-and-coming 20-year-olds - Vishmi Gunaratne and Dewmi Vihanga. Sri Lanka has only ever recorded three ODI wins against India, though one of those victories came earlier this year. Can they do it again in a huge upset to begin the tournament?
UEFA Champions League: Barcelona v Paris Saint-Germain
Wednesday 1st October 7:00PM GMT/9:00PM Local
Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, Barcelona
Barcelona host Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys in Barcelona. Both sides enter this titanic clash having gotten off to a winning start in their respective continental campaigns. A Marcus Rashford brace was enough to see Barcelona past a spirited Newcastle United side. Meanwhile, defending tournament champions PSG cruised to a 4-0 rout of Atalanta. With neither side lacking in firepower, a high-scoring match would not be surprising. These two sides last met during the 2023/24 tournament, when PSG won 6-4 on aggregate in a dramatic Quarterfinal clash. However, this match marks the first time since the 2014/15 competition that the two sides have met before the knockouts.
NFL: Los Angeles Rams v San Francisco 49ers
Thursday 2nd October 12:15AM GMT (3rd)/5:15PM Local
SoFi Stadium, Los Angeles
The Los Angeles Rams host the San Francisco 49ers at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles in this clash of NFL division rivals. The Rams are 3-1 to start the season for the first time since 2021, having ended the Indianapolis Colts’ unbeaten start to the season last weekend. Matthew Stafford continues to defy time and remains a steady hand at the quarterback position for the Rams. Meanwhile, San Francisco are coming off their first loss of the season, having been outdueled by the Jacksonville Jaguars. That puts the 49ers at 3-1, also, making this a crucial game in what is shaping up to be the most competitive division in football. With Brock Purdy at the helm, can the Niners snap a three-game losing streak against the Rams?
Super League: Wigan Warriors v Leigh Leopards
Friday 3rd October 7:00PM GMT/8:00PM Local
The Brick Community Stadium, Wigan
Wigan Warriors host Leigh Leopards in a Super League Semi-final at the Brick Community Stadium in Wigan. Defending Super League champions Wigan will be hoping to make their third consecutive Grand Final and complete their three-peat. However, they must first overcome Leigh, who are just three years removed from playing in the second-tier Championship. The Leopards have had a fantastic season, finishing third in the table before scoring a big win over Wakefield in the Elimination round. A win over Wigan would put Leigh into their first Grand Final and give them a chance to win their first top-flight title since 1982. With two high-scoring attacks on show in this match, it may come down to who kicks their goals best.
UFC: UFC 320: Ankalaev vs. Pereira 2
Saturday 4th October 2:00AM GMT (5th)/7:00PM Local
T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas
UFC 320 takes place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The event, the first in a huge month for UFC is headlined by two major title fights. Light Heavyweight champion Magomed Ankalaev defends his belt against Alex Pereira. The fight is a rematch of their bout from UFC 313, where Ankalaev defeated then title-holder Pereira by unanimous decision. Meanwhile, Bantamweight belt holder Merab Dvalishvili faces Cory Sandhagen. Dvalishvili has held the belt since UFC 306 and will be making his third title defence in Las Vegas. Elsewhere on the card, Jiří Procházka fights Khalil Roundtree Jr. in a bout that may determine the next title challenger in the Light Heavyweight division.
NRL: Storm v Broncos
Sunday 5th October 8:30AM GMT/7:30PM Local
Stadium Australia, Sydney
The Melbourne Storm face the Brisbane Broncos in the NRL Grand Final at Stadium Australia in Sydney. The Storm, runners-up in the regular season, are aiming for their fifth title and first since 2020. They came up short last year in the Final, losing to the Penrith Panthers, and will be eager not to have history repeat itself. Meanwhile, the Brisbane Broncos scored 16 unanswered points to mount a comeback victory against the Panthers and reach their first Final since 2023. The Broncos have not won an NRL title since 2006, but a title would be the perfect end to this huge bounce-back season, having finished 12th in 2024. Can the Broncos secure a upset, given they have only beaten the Storm 15 times in club history?
