This Week in Sport: 25th April − 1st May 2022

Suzuki's Álex Rins racing in the wetAs April draws to a close and we move into May, sports fans will once again be treated to a very exciting week of sport. On Monday, the Boston Celtics are at the Barclays Center to take on the Brooklyn Nets in game 4 of their Eastern Conference Playoff. The next day, on the other side of the Atlantic, Real Madrid play Manchester City away in the first leg of their Champions League Semi-final. Wednesday will see a top of the IPL table clash between the Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Later in the week on Thursday, NFL teams will be picking the best up and coming talent in this year’s Draft. The next day, the World Snooker Championships continue as the world’s best players compete in the Semifinals of this year’s competition.

There is no shortage of exciting sport at the weekend either. On Saturday, France take on England in what will be a decisive Women’s Six Nations matchup. Finally, on Sunday, MotoGP heads to Jerez for the Spanish Grand Prix. 

 

NBA: ​​Brooklyn Nets v Boston Celtics

The Brooklyn Nets will have to come out firing against the Boston Celtics on Monday, as they face elimination from the NBA Playoffs. The Celtics currently hold a 3-0 lead against the Nets and need just a single win to ensure they reach the Eastern Conference Semifinals. Can the Nets come back from the brink of defeat?

UEFA Champions League: Manchester City v Real Madrid

Last year’s Champions League finalists and tournament runners-up Manchester City will play host to Real Madrid in the first leg of their Semi-final tie. After falling just short in last season’s tournament, Manchester City will be desperate to get the upper hand against Carlo Ancelotti’s side early and get to the final again.

IPL: Gujarat Titans v Sunrisers Hyderabad

New to the IPL this season, the Gujarat Titans have had an impressive start to the season winning all but 1 of their opening 7 games. However, they will undoubtedly be tested by 2016 champions Sunrisers Hyderabad, who have also had a strong start to the season and sit only 2 points behind the Titans in the table.

NFL: Draft - First Round

This year’s NFL draft will take place over 3 days in Las Vegas, with the best young players waiting with baited breath to find out where they will start their professional careers. The Jacksonville Jaguars have the first pick and will look to make the most of this year’s draft after a very disappointing 2021 season.

Snooker: World Championship

This year’s World Snooker Championship takes place at the Crucible for the 46th consecutive year, with the world’s best players descending on Sheffield all hoping to win the title. English fans will be hoping that Ronnie 'The Rocket' O'Sullivan continues his strong performance and reaches the Semifinals which will start on Thursday and continue over Friday and Saturday.

MotoGP: Spain Grand Prix

MotoGP teams and riders will head to Jerez for the fifth round of the season. The first 4 races of the year have seen a tight battle at the top of the riders standings develop between the top 3 drivers, with the top 2 riders Fabio Quartararo and Álex Rins both sat on 69 points and Aleix Espargaró sat only 3 points adrift.
