This Week in Sport: 24th January − 30th January 2022

Mikal Bridges scores for the Phoenix SunsThe last full week of January is shaping up to be an exciting 7 days for sports fans around the world. On Monday, the Utah Jazz travel south to take on the Phoenix Suns in the NBA. The following day, on the other side of the Atlantic, Morocco face Malawi in the Africa Cup of Nations. Wednesday sees an early start to the Farmers Insurance Open, where the players will tee it up at the famous Torrey Pines.

The single Test in the Women’s Ashes series starts on Thursday, with England taking on Australia in Canberra. Friday sees the culmination of the Big Bash League, with the final marking the end of the near 2 month tournament.

The weekend is also an exciting sporting prospect with the world’s best tennis players battling it out for Australian Open glory, and the Los Angeles Rams take on the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday.


NBA: Phoenix Suns v Utah Jazz

The Utah Jazz travel south to Phoenix in order to go head-to-head with the Suns on Monday. The Suns will be a very tough team to beat, having won their last 6 games and sat 2 wins clear at the top of the NBA’s Western Conference. Can the Jazz cause an upset?

Africa Cup of Nations: Morocco v Malawi

Despite a draw in their last game against Gabon, Morocco are firm favourites to win this round of 16 match-up having won 5 of their last 6 games. Malawi, however, showed promise against Zimbabwe in their group stage game and will be desperate to win this knockout game to keep their title hopes alive.

PGA Tour: Farmers Insurance Open

The Farmers Insurance begins a day early this year, so as to avoid conflict with the NFL’s Conference Championship Games. Patrick Reed will be keen to repeat last year’s record breaking victory, but is up against a tough field, especially as Dustin Johnson returns to the course for the first time since the CJ Cup last October.

Women’s Ashes: Australia Women v England Women (Test) Day 1

The first and only Test of the Women’s Ashes series begins on Thursday in Canberra. So far the series has been heavily affected by weather, after the 2nd and 3rd of the two teams’ T20 games were called off. Big Bash League: Final
