Chesterfield Football Club, known as the Spireites, is a professional English football team based in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Founded in 1866, the club competes in the English Football League and returned to League Two in 2024 after winning the National League title in the 2023–24 season. Chesterfield has also won the Football League Trophy, lifting the prize at Wembley in 2012, and reached the FA Cup semi-finals in 1997, where a controversial late decision denied the club a place in the final. The team plays home matches at the SMH Group Stadium, which opened in 2010 and replaced its long-time former ground, Saltergate. The modern stadium has a capacity of around 10,500 and is located close to Chesterfield town centre. Notable players associated with the club include prolific striker Ernie Moss, forward Jack Lester and England international Kevin Davies, who began his professional career at Chesterfield. With a loyal local following, a proud cup history and recent success in the National League, Chesterfield remains one of Derbyshire’s best-known football clubs. Fans can follow the Spireites in league fixtures and domestic cup competitions throughout the season.

Oldham Athletic Association Football Club, known as the Latics, is a professional football club based in Oldham, Greater Manchester. Founded in 1895, the club plays its home matches at Boundary Park, a long-standing stadium situated close to the Pennines. Oldham competes in the English Football League Two, having secured promotion from the National League in 2025 after three seasons outside the Football League. The club’s most successful modern period came under manager Joe Royle: Oldham won the Second Division title in 1990–91 and reached the inaugural Premier League in 1992. They also made the FA Cup semi-finals and the Football League Cup final in 1990, and reached the FA Cup semi-finals again in 1994. Notable players in the club’s history include prolific forward Roger Palmer, midfielder Andy Ritchie and striker Paul Warhurst. Oldham later became the first former Premier League club to be relegated to the National League, in 2022, before beginning its return through the divisions. With its distinctive history, loyal local support and Boundary Park setting, Oldham Athletic remains an important name in English football.
