Event of the Day: T20 Blast Finals Day

Our event of the day...

is the conclusion of the 2017 NatWest T20 Blast at Edgbaston in Birmingham. An occasion that rarely fails to deliver huge hits, tumbling wickets and stunning run chases. Last year produced 927 runs and 46 wickets, so a lot of action can be expected.

This year’s event sees semi-finals between home team Birmingham Bears and Glamorgan followed by Hampshire up against Notts Outlaws before the final. The Outlaws come into the T20 finals day having won the Royal London One-Day Cup a couple of months ago, when Alex Hales hit a record-breaking 187 not out off 167 balls. Hampshire are two time winners of the tournament and young English spinner Mason Crane has been their star man in this year's tournament. Meanwhile the Bears secured their place in today’s first semi-final after an epic encounter with Surrey in which they successfully chased down 204, needing 45 runs from their final 5 overs. Glamorgan have only reached Finals day once before and will be desperate to get their first win. In addition to the explosive cricket is the fan-favourite mascot race, where mascots from a number of T20 teams take part in an action-packed obstacle course. Get ready for a thrilling day of entertainment at Edgbaston.

Honourable mentions...

go to Aviva Premiership Rugby with Wasps up against Sale Sharks at the Ricoh Arena as the pick of the day's three games. It is day 6 of the US Open with Roger Federer up against Feliciano López and Rafael Nadal against Leonardo Mayer. In the UFC it is Fight Night as Russian Alexander Volkov goes head to head against Dutchman Stefan Struve in Rotterdam. Football World Cup Qualifiers continue across Europe as Spain take on Italy and Wales face Austria.
