Event of the Day: AG Memorial Van Damme
Our event of the day...
is the second final of the IAAF Diamond League - the 41st AG Memorial Van Damme in Brussels, Belgium. Expect some stellar performances from the athletes at an event where 13 world records have been set over the years with 6 of them still standing. 16 Diamond League champions were crowned in Zurich last week and competition will be extremely fierce in the remaining open 16 Diamond League finals in Belgium. In the Women's 100m, Jamaican sprinter Elaine Thompson, will be looking to build on her impressive 100m and 200m gold medals at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio and react to her defeat at the 2017 World Championships in London when she finished outside the medal places in fifth. The Women's Long Jump final should be an excellent spectacle with the gold, silver and bronze medalists from the London World Championships - Brittney Reese, Darya Klishina and Tianna Bartoletta - all present.
In a non-Diamond League final event it is worth watching out for the Borlée brothers - Kévin, Jonathan and Dylan - who will be representing the home crowd in the 4 x 400m relay. They will look to build on their 4th place finish in London and 2nd place at the European Indoor Athletics Championships in Belgrade earlier this year. It is all set up to be a thrilling night of world class athletics as the season draws to a conclusion.
