Event of the Day: Italian F1 Grand Prix

Our event of the day...

is the Italian Grand Prix at Monza. The Constructor and the Driver standings are close coming into the weekend with Ferrari and Mercedes clearly possessing the strongest cars this season. Ferrari – which will have the majority of the home crowd’s support – will be looking to add to Sebastian Vettel’s 4 wins so far this season, while Mercedes pair Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas occupy second and third in the rankings with their respective 5 and 2 wins. Vettel currently leads Hamilton by just 7 points in the championship.

In Friday’s practice the Mercedes team looked impressive with Hamilton coming top during the first session and Bottas fastest in the second. Hamilton followed this up with an impressive display on Saturday to take a record-breaking 69th pole position for today’s Grand Prix in wet conditions. Vettel finished qualifying in eighth but will begin in sixth due to penalties given to Red Bull teammates Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo. The last European race of the season should be an exciting one as the fight for the championship gets closer and closer.
