Event of the Day: Champions League Final

Our event of the day is the Champions League Final in Cardiff as defending champions Real Madrid take on Juventus with European club football’s greatest prize on the line. Madrid are bidding to become the first team to win the Champions League back-to-back since the change of format in 1992. This will be Juventus’ second final in three years after losing 3-1 to Barcelona in 2015. The Old Lady have not lifted the famous trophy since 1996 and a win tonight would complete a season treble for them with their Serie A and Coppa Italia wins. Juventus’ miserly defence that features Leonardo Bonucci, Giorgio Chiellini and the legendary goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon will have to be on top of their game to stop the potent Madrid attack of Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema.

Honourable mentions around the globe go to the British and Irish Lions’ first tour match against the New Zealand Provincial Barbarians in Auckland. Head Coach Warren Gatland will be hoping his side can get off to a winning start and his players put their hands up for places in the First Test team on the 24th June with a great performance. Sri Lanka and South Africa get their ICC Champions Trophy campaign underway at the Kia Oval. The French Open continues with more men's and women's singles matches – Andy Murray versus Juan Martin del Potro, the pick of the contests. Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals takes place in Nashville as the Predators host the Pittsburgh Penguins with the Penguins leading the series 2-0.
