Event of the Day: England v South Africa

Our event of the day...

is day 4 of the final test match between England and South Africa at Old Trafford. The third day finished early due to rain with England on 224 for 8 in their second innings. Therefore South Africa are at the very least chasing 360, which already would be a test record for the highest run-chase at Old Trafford.

The highlight of Sunday's play was the exciting batting of Moeen Ali who is currently on 67 not out. The all-rounder has had a sensational series becoming only the second English player after Ian Botham to score 200 runs and take 20 wickets in a four test series. The Proteas have a real challenge to stop England, with their 2-1 series lead, claiming their first home-series victory against South Africa since 1998. It will be fascinating to see how South Africa take to the task ahead.

Honourable mentions...

around the globe go to the World Athletics Championships in London with highlights including the men’s 110m hurdles final and the women’s hammer and 1,500m finals.

It is the first day of the Canadian Open tennis, played on outdoor hard courts, with the women’s event at the Aviva Centre in Toronto and the men's competition at the Uniprix Stadium in Montreal. It is the first day of the 13th edition of the BinckBank Tour with the riders racing from Breda to Venray in the Netherlands. It is the start of the County Championship Division One match between Somerset and Surrey at Taunton.
