Event of the Day: IAAF World Championships Day 5

Our event of the day...

is day 5 of the IAAF World Championships at London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford. So far the United States are sitting in first place on the medal's table with two gold medals from Justin Gatlin in the men’s 100m and Tori Bowie in the women’s 100m, along with 5 silvers and 2 bronze. Kenya lie in second place, thanks to victories by Geoffrey Kipkorir Kirui in the men’s marathon and by Faith Chepngetich Kipyegon in the women’s 1500m, along with a silver and 2 bronze medals.

The highlights of today's action include the men’s pole vault final with Renaud Lavillenie, who won the Olympics in London 2012, featuring. The men's 800m final with Botswana’s Nijel Amos the favourite for the gold medal. The men’s 400m final featuring Wayde van Niekerk who is attempting to win the 200m-400m double. Along with the women's Javelin throw and men's steeplechase final it should be a thrilling night of action.

around the globe go to the UEFA Super Cup Final with Real Madrid up against Manchester United at the Philip II Arena in Skopje, Macedonia.

It is day 2 of the Canada Open tennis tournaments in Montreal and Toronto. It is day 2 of the BinckBank Tour with the 9km individual time-trial in Voorburg in the Netherlands. Three County Cricket Division One matches continue.
