This Week in Sport: 25th March − 31st March 2024

There are some exciting events taking place around the world this week. On Monday, the Vancouver Canucks face the Los Angeles Kings in the NHL, Tuesday sees the Chennai Super Kings face the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League, and Lyon Féminin host Benfica Women in the UEFA Women’s Champions League on Wednesday. On Thursday, the Houston Astros go head-to-head with the New York Yankees in the MLB, and the Denver Nuggets host the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA on Friday.

Heading into the weekend, the Miami Open will see the Women’s Singles Final take place on Saturday, and exciting Premier League action rounds out the week, with Manchester City taking on Arsenal on Sunday.

NHL: Vancouver Canucks v Los Angeles Kings

There is high-quality action in the NHL on Monday, with the Vancouver Canucks hosting the Los Angeles Kings at Rogers Arena. The Canucks currently sit top of the Pacific Division in the Western Conference, with a record of 45-18-8, whilst their opponents sit in third of the same division, looking to build on their win streak of three to gain some ground on the Canucks and the Edmonton Oilers in first and second, respectively.

Indian Premier League: Chennai Super Kings v Gujarat Titans

Tuesday 26th March 2:00PM GMT/7:30PM Local Time

M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai

On Tuesday, the reigning Indian Premier League Champions, the Chennai Super Kings, will face the Gujarat Titans at the M.A Chidambaram Stadium, the side they defeated in the 2023 Final to lift the title. Both sides won their opening game of the 2024 season, with the Super Kings beating Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 6 wickets, and the Titans winning comfortably by 62 runs against the Mumbai Indians. This is sure to be a high-quality affair.

UEFA Women's Champions League: Lyon Féminin v Benfica Women

Wednesday 27th March 5:45PM GMT/6:45PM Local Time

The UEFA Women’s Champions League will see second-leg Quarter Final action on Wednesday, and Lyon Féminin will host Benfica Women at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais. Lyon go into the second match with a 2-1 lead, and the eight-time Champions will be looking to hold their lead this time out to continue the hunt for their ninth UWCL trophy. Benfica will face an uphill struggle against such a high-quality team but have given themselves a chance and will push to overturn the one-goal deficit away from home.

MLB: Houston Astros v New York Yankees

Thursday 28th March 8:10PM GMT/3:10PM Local Time

The new MLB season gets fully underway on Thursday after last week’s opening series in South Korea between the San Diego Padres and the Los Angeles Dodgers, and a notable game will see the Houston Astros host the New York Yankees. The Astros will want to build on last season’s playoff run, where they were eventually beaten in the American League Championship Series by eventual champions, the Texas Rangers. The Yankees had a less successful season in 2023, missing out on the postseason for the first time since 2016, so will be looking to improve.

NBA: Denver Nuggets v Minnesota Timberwolves

Friday 29th March 1:00AM (30th) GMT/7:00PM Local Time

On Friday, there is exciting Western Conference action in the NBA, as current conference leaders and reigning NBA Champions, the Denver Nuggets, host the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Ball Arena. The hosts currently have a record of 50-21, whilst the Timberwolves sit in third on the conference standings with a record of 49-22 and will close in on top spot with a win here.

WTA & ATP Tour: Miami Open Day 12

Saturday 30th March 4:30PM GMT/12:30PM Local Time

Hard Rock Stadium, Miami Gardens

Saturday will see the Miami Open’s Women’s Singles Final take place at the Hard Rock Stadium, as well as the Men’s Doubles Final. In the Women’s Singles, current favourites still in the competition include Iga Świątek, Coco Gauff, and Elana Rybakina. In the men’s competition, the Semifinals will take place on Friday and the Final is on Sunday.

Premier League: Manchester City v Arsenal

Sunday 31st March 3:30PM GMT/4:30PM Local Time

City of Manchester Stadium, Manchester

On Sunday, the Premier League title race will see potentially its most important game so far, as seven-time Premier League Champions, Manchester City, host three-time Champions, Arsenal at the City of Manchester Stadium. City, who currently sit third in the league but only one point behind Arsenal in top, are on their hunt to win a record four consecutive Premier League titles, whilst first place Arsenal are looking to win their first title since the 2003/04 season.
