This Week in Sport: 22nd May − 28th May 2023

There are some huge fixtures coming up this week in the world of sport. On Monday, the Florida Panthers take on the Carolina Hurricanes in the NHL Eastern Conference Finals, Tuesday sees the Miami Heat host the Boston Celtics in the NBA Eastern Conference Finals, and on Wednesday the Lucknow Super Giants take on the Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator match in the Indian Premier League. On Thursday, the PDC Darts Premier League Play-Offs take place, and the Giro d’Italia continues on Friday.

Heading into the weekend, the Premiership Rugby Final takes place on Saturday, with Saracens and Sale Sharks heading to Twickenham Stadium, and the week is rounded out by the famous Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix.

NHL: Florida Panthers v Carolina Hurricanes

Monday sees Game 3 of the NHL Eastern Conference Finals take place, where the Florida Panthers and the Carolina Hurricanes will fight it out for their place in the Stanley Cup Finals. The Panthers go into the third game with a 2-0 series lead, but with both games so far going to overtime, there is not much to separate the two sides in terms of quality. You won’t want to miss this one.

NBA: Miami Heat v Boston Celtics

On Tuesday, the Miami Heat will take on the Boston Celtics in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals. The Heat will be looking to tie up the series as quickly as possible, heading into the game with a dominant 3-0 lead, meaning they are only one win away from the NBA Finals. The Celtics will be determined to put up a fight and will hope Tuesday is the beginning of a miraculous comeback.

Indian Premier League: Lucknow Super Giants v Mumbai Indians

M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai

The Indian Premier League reaches its business end this week, and Wednesday sees the Eliminator match between Lucknow Super Giants and the Mumbai Indians being played. The winner of this match will then play the loser of Qualifier 1, either the Gujarat Titans or the Chennai Super Kings, on Friday. The winners of the two Qualifier matches will then play in the final on Sunday, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

PDC Darts: Cazoo Premier League Play-Offs

Thursday 25th May 6:00PM GMT/7:00PM Local Time

O2 Arena, London

Thursday sees the conclusion of the PDC’s Cazoo Premier League, as the Play-Offs take place at the O2 Arena in London. The event sees the top four players of the tournament take part in a knockout format, with top of the table Gerwyn Price taking on Jonny Clayton in one Semi-Final, and reigning World Champion Michael Smith taking on Michael van Gerwen in the other. There is sure to be excitement in this one.

Giro d’Italia: Giro d’Italia Day 19

The Giro d’Italia enters its final week this week, and Friday sees Stage 19 take place, with riders travelling 182 kilometres across the Dolomites, from Longarone to Tre Cime di Lavaredo. With favourite, Remco Evenepoel, being forced to withdraw from the race, Bruno Armirail currently sits top, with Geraint Thomas and Primož Roglič not far behind.

Premiership Rugby: Saracens v Sale Sharks

Twickenham Stadium, London

The Premiership Rugby Final takes place on Saturday, with Saracens facing off against Sale Sharks at Twickenham Stadium. Saracens have been the team to beat so far this season and showed their quality against the Northampton Saints in the Semifinals. Sale Sharks had a tougher time getting to the Final, having to overcome Leicester Tigers in a well-contested affair.

Formula 1: Monaco Grand Prix

Sunday sees Formula 1 head to Monte Carlo for the prestigious Monaco Grand Prix. After the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix was cancelled last week, drivers and fans alike will be hoping for an exciting race. Overtaking is difficult in Monaco, so drivers will want to get the best result they can in Saturday’s qualifying. Can any driver best the Red Bulls, who have dominated so far this season?
