This Week in Sport: 14th July − 20th July 2025

MLB All-Star and league home run leader Cal Raleigh

Another week of fantastic sport lies ahead. England and India conclude the third Test of their five-Test series on Monday. MLB hosts its annual All-Star Game on Tuesday in Atlanta. That’s followed by the first UEFA Women’s Championship Quarterfinal on Wednesday, with Norway facing Italy. On Thursday, The Open Championship tees off at the Royal Portrush Golf CLub, and on Friday, the Tour de France continues with a mountain stage time trial.

There is plenty more to enjoy at the weekend. On Saturday, Australia host the British & Irish Lions for the first of three Test Matches, and on Sunday, the Adelaide Crows face the Gold Coast Suns in the AFL.

Cricket in England: England v India (3rd Test) Day 5

Monday 14th July 10:00AM GMT/11:00AM Local

Lord's Cricket Ground, London

The third Test between England and India concludes at Lord’s in London. Heading into the final day of play, India have put themselves in a position to take a 2-1 series lead but England seem to have just as good of a chance. After holding England to 192 runs in their second innings, the visitors need 135 runs to win. However, England have already taken four wickets, setting up for an absolutely thrilling finish. If India win, they will become favourites to win a series in England for the first time since 2007. The series resumes next week with the fourth Test at Old Trafford starting on 23rd.

MLB: All Star Game

Tuesday 15th July 12:00AM GMT (16th)/8:00PM Local

Truist Park, Atlanta

Teams from the American League and National League face off in the MLB All-Star Game at Truist Park in Atlanta. The American League are the defending champions and have won 10 of the last 11 matchups. This year, their team is headlined by superstar Detroit Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal, league-leading home run hitter Cal Raleigh of the Seattle Mariners, and the New York Yankees’ Aaron Judge, the reigning AL MVP. For the National League, stars such as Los Angeles Dodgers teammates nine-time All-Star Freddie Freeman and three-time AL/NL MVP Shohei Ohtani, hometown representative Ronald Acuña Jr. of the Atlanta Braves, and young star pitcher Paul Skenes of the Pittsburgh Pirates, will attempt to secure the National League’s second win in the last three years.

UEFA European Women's Championship: Norway Women v Italy Women

Wednesday 16th July 7:00PM GMT/9:00PM Local

Stade de Genève, Geneva

Norway face Italy in the UEFA Women’s Championship Quarterfinals at the Stade de Genève in Geneva. Norway, two-time European champions, didn’t impress particularly in what should have been a relatively straightforward group involving Switzerland, Finland, and Iceland. While they finished the group undefeated, they were aided by opposition own goals in each of their first two matches. Despite this, Norway do have the talent to threaten a deep run in the tournament. Meanwhile, Italy qualified in second place in Group B, beating Belgium before drawing with Portugal and losing to Spain. Appearing in the knockout stage for the first time since 2013, Italy will be eager to make the semifinals for the first time since 1997 behind their seasoned squad.

Major Championships (Golf): The Open Championship Day 1

Thursday 17th July 5:35AM GMT/6:35AM Local

Royal Portrush Golf Club, Portrush

The Open Championship tees off at Royal Portrush in Portrush for what is set to be an incredible four days of golf. As the Northern Irish course hosts for the first time since 2019, Xander Schauffele enters as the defending champion but will face stiff competition from Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau, and local star Rory McIlroy. McIlroy, who won The Open in 2014, grew up in the Belfast suburb of Holywood, about an hour’s drive from Royal Portrush. The Dunluce Course is widely considered one of the best courses in the world, with the fourth, fifth, and sixteenth holes considered the course’s signatures.

Tour de France: Tour de France Stage 13

Friday 18th July 11:10AM GMT/1:10PM Local

Loudenvielle

The Tour de France continues with a 10.9km mountain time trial between Loudenvielle and Peyragudes. Entering the week, defending champion Tadej Pogačar wears the yellow jersey and has a 54-second lead over second-place Remco Evenepoel. However, it remains to be seen what impact the withdrawal of Pogačar’s key teammate, João Almeida, will have on the race going forward. Stage 13 is a gruelling time trial with a 650m rise in elevation over just 10.9km. This includes a 4.5km section at a gradient of 8.9% and two 1km sections at a gradient of 9%. Expect Pogačar, who has already held the mountain leader jersey multiple times in this race, to excel during this challenging stage.

British & Irish Lions Tour: Australia v British & Irish Lions

Saturday 19th July 10:00AM GMT/8:00PM Local

Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane

Australia host the British & Irish Lions at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane in the first of three Test Matches between the two teams. The Lions will look to make a statement against the Wallabies after hardly being challenged for most of the Tour so far. A big question for head coach Andy Farrell will be whether he includes his son, and former England captain, Owen Farrell, in the reserves of the Test squad following the younger Farrell’s return to international action, as a replacement for the injured Elliot Daly. Meanwhile, Australia will likely field a youthful team, with 18 players in the wider squad coming in with 20 or fewer caps. One notable inclusion in the squad is James O’Connor, who recently won the Super Rugby title with the Crusaders and earns his first Australia call-up in three years. While the Lions are favourites, they should by no means underestimate the hosts and hopefully there is a thrilling start to the series.

AFL: Adelaide Crows v Gold Coast Suns

Sunday 20th July 6:40AM GMT/4:10PM Local

Adelaide Oval, Adelaide

Round 19 of the AFL season concludes with the Adelaide Crows hosting the Gold Coast Suns at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide. The Crows enter this match third in the standings and riding a three-game win streak. Hunting for their first premiership since 1998, Adelaide have mounted a remarkable turnaround after finishing 15th last season. Meanwhile, Gold Coast are 5th, albeit with a game in hand, and riding their own three-game win streak. The only active AFL team to have never made the Grand Final and a side who have never finished higher than 12th in the ladder, the Suns finally seem to be breaking through into contention behind the talents of young star, Ben King.
