This Week in Sport: 7th July − 13th July 2025

Amanda Serrano fighting Katie Taylor

Fixture Calendar offers our condolences to the Liverpool and Portugal football communities following the tragic and shocking death of Diogo Jota and his brother last week.

There is plenty of thrilling sport to enjoy this week. On Monday, Stage 3 of the Tour de France takes riders from Valenciennes to Dunkirk. On Tuesday, Fluminense take on Chelsea in the Semifinals of the FIFA Club World Cup. That’s followed by Game 3 of the State of Origin Series on Wednesday. Thursday sees the third Test between England and India get underway at Lord's, and there’s must-see boxing on Friday as Katie Taylor fights Amanda Serrano.

Heading into the weekend, Sweden play Germany at the UEFA Women’s Championship on Saturday and Wimbledon concludes with the Men’s Singles’ Final on Sunday.

Tour de France: Tour de France Day 3

Monday 7th July 11:10AM GMT/1:10PM Local

Valenciennes

The Tour de France continues with a 178.3km stage between Valenciennes and Dunkirk. After the opening two stages, Mathieu van der Poel wears the yellow jersey following his Stage 2 victory. However, defending champion Tadej Pogačar is just four seconds behind the Dutchman, with 2024 runner-up Jonas Vingegaard an additional two seconds back in third. Today’s route takes riders through the beautiful French countryside, including the famed cobbles at the town of Orchies around 31km into the stage. The Tour continues non-stop until the first rest day in Toulouse on Tuesday July 15th.

FIFA Club World Cup: Fluminense v Chelsea

Tuesday 8th July 7:00PM GMT/3:00PM Local

MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford

Fluminense face Chelsea in the FIFA Club World Cup Semifinals at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford. Brazilian giants Fluminense are the last non-European side left in the competition. Led by footballing legend and ex-Chelsea player Thiago Silva, the Rio-based team has taken the tournament by storm. After finishing second in their group, they have beaten Inter Milan and Al-Hilal to put themselves 90 minutes from the Final. Chelsea also finished second in their group and have beaten Benfica and Palmeiras to reach the Semifinals. Chelsea hope to appear in the Final of this new format of the Club World Cup after winning their first Club World Cup in 2021.

State of Origin Series: New South Wales Blues v Queensland Maroons (State of Origin Game III)

Wednesday 9th July 10:10AM GMT/8:10PM Local

Stadium Australia, Sydney

The New South Wales Blues face the Queensland Maroons in Game III of the 2025 State of Origin Series at Accor Stadium in Sydney. With the series tied at 1-1, it’s all to play for in this pivotal third and final game. Given how close the series has been so far, Game III may come down to who has the better kicking leg on the night - the Blues’ Zac Lomax or the Maroons’ Valentine Holmes. That was the case in the Maroons’ two-point win in Game II, where Holmes went 5-for-5 and Lomax only went 2-for-5. The Blues are the defending champions but haven’t mounted a successful title defence since 2019.

Cricket in England: England v India (3rd Test) Day 1

Thursday 10th July 10:00AM GMT/11:00AM Local

Lord's Cricket Ground, London

The third Test between England and India begins at Lord’s Cricket Ground. The five-Test series stands at 1-1 through the first two Tests. After England’s late-innings heroics in the first Test, India responded in dominant fashion at Edgbaston last week, winning the second Test by 336 runs. Captain Shubman Gill was unstoppable at the crease, putting up 430 runs while Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj took 10 and 7 wickets respectively. England’s one major silver lining was the batting of Jamie Smith, who put up 184 runs in the first innings and 88 in the second innings. Can England find a reliable answer to their bowling woes before India gain too much momentum in the series?

Boxing Fights: Katie Taylor v Amanda Serrano

Friday 11th July 02:30AM GMT (12th)/10:30PM Local

Madison Square Garden, New York

Katie Taylor defends her undisputed Super Lightweight belt against Amanda Serrano at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Taylor (24-1) and Serrano (47-3-1) complete their super-fight trilogy, with Taylor making her second defence of her historic title. Returning to the place their rivalry began, Taylor looks to complete a 3-0 sweep against the legendary Serrano. Headlining an all-women card and streaming live on Netflix, this fight goes beyond the ring and marks a monumental moment for women’s boxing as a whole. After a split decision in fight one and a unanimous decision in fight two, will this third fight also go the distance?

UEFA Women’s European Championship: Sweden Women v Germany Women

Saturday 12th July 7:00PM GMT/9:00PM Local

Stadion Letzigrund, Zürich

Sweden face Germany in the UEFA Women’s Championship at Stadion Letzigrund in Zurich. With both teams favoured to win their midweek games against Poland and Denmark, respectively, this game will likely decide the winner of Group C. This could be vital to a team’s fortunes, given that Group D, their opponents in the Quarterfinals, is viewed as the 'Group of Death' and playing the runner-up of that group rather than the winner could be the difference between a place in the Semifinals and an early flight home. Both Sweden and Germany have the talent to win in Zurich, making this a fascinating clash.

Grand Slam (Tennis): Wimbledon Day 14

Sunday 13th July 3:00PM GMT/4:00PM Local

All England Lawn Tennis Club, London

The Men’s Singles Final of Wimbledon takes place at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London. Entering the second week of the tournament, many questions remain in the men’s bracket. Are we destined for another Sinner-Alcaraz Final? Will Novak Djokovic, who recorded his 100th Wimbledon win in the third round, win his 25th Grand Slam title? Or can Cameron Norrie shock the world and become Wimbledon’s first British winner since 2016? Play continues throughout the week, starting with the conclusion of the fourth round on Monday.
