Ja'Marr Chase in action for the Cincinnati Bengals

There is something for every sports fan this week. On Monday, the National League Championship Series gets underway between the Milwaukee Brewers and the Los Angeles Dodgers. On Tuesday, the Dallas Stars host the Minnesota Wild in the NHL. That’s followed by a UEFA Women’s Champions League clash between Chelsea and Paris FC on Wednesday. On Thursday, the Cincinnati Bengals take on their divisional rivals, the Pittsburgh Steelers in the NFL, and on Friday, Gloucester host local rivals, Bristol Bears, in an exciting PREM Rugby game.

The action continues over the weekend. On Saturday, Crystal Palace face Bournemouth in the Premier League, and on Sunday, the Formula 1 season continues with the United States Grand Prix.

MLB: Milwaukee Brewers v Los Angeles Dodgers

Monday 13th October 12:08AM GMT (14th)/7:08PM Local

American Family Field, Milwaukee

The Milwaukee Brewers host the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series at American Family Field in Milwaukee as the MLB Postseason continues. The Brewers appear in the NLCS for the first time since 2018. Jackson Chourio has so far been the engine of Milwaukee’s postseason offense, hitting .339 and six RBIs. Meanwhile, rookie pitcher Jacob Misiorowski has continued his phenomenal season, winning both his starts in the last round and bringing an ERA of just 1.29 into this series. The defending champion, LA Dodgers, appear in their fourth NLCS since 2020. With presumptive National League MVP Shohei Ohtani in something of a slump, veteran Mookie Betts has been the one to carry the team this far. Also contributing runs is Tesocar Hernández, who leads the Dodgers in home runs and RBIs so far in the playoffs. On the mound, Blake Snell has been stellar for LA, with a 2-0 record and just five hits and two earned runs through 13 postseason innings. The last time Milwaukee reached the NLCS, they lost to the Dodgers in seven games. Will things be different this time around?

NHL: Dallas Stars v Minnesota Wild

Tuesday 14th October 1:30AM GMT (15th)/8:30PM Local

American Airlines Center, Dallas

The Dallas Stars face the Minnesota Wild in the NHL at American Airlines Center in Dallas. The Stars have opened their season perfectly, with wins over the Winnipeg Jets and the Colorado Avalanche to start 2-0. Top-line winger Mikko Rantanen has begun his first full season in Dallas with four points in two games as the Stars hope that a full season with the Finnish star will be the key to breaking their streak of losing in three consecutive Conference Finals. Meanwhile, the Wild opened their season with a 5-0 rout of the St. Louis Blues before falling 7-4 to the Columbus Blue Jackets. Fresh off his record contract extension, Kirill Kaprizov is already putting in the work, with six points in the team’s first two games. The Wild are hoping that Kasprizov and his talented supporting cast can power the Wild past the first round of the playoffs for the first time since 2015, come the end of the season.

UEFA Women’s Champions League: Chelsea v Paris FC

Wednesday 15th October 7:00PM GMT/8:00PM Local

Stamford Bridge, London

Chelsea take on Paris FC in the Women’s Champions League at Stamford Bridge in London. Both teams enter this match looking for their first win of the competition. Despite their white-hot domestic start, Chelsea needed a late penalty to salvage a draw against FC Twente in their last continental outing. After rotating the squad against their Dutch opponents, expect Chelsea to be closer to full-strength for this matchup. Meanwhile, Paris FC began their Champions League campaign squandering a 2-0 lead against Belgian side OH Leuven to come away from a very winnable match with just a single point. With a strong start to their own domestic season, Paris will be eager to show Europe what they are capable of and bounce back from their uninspiring start, to stun one of the continent’s best teams. These two sides met in the group stage during the 2023/24 tournament, with Chelsea dominating both games. Will history repeat itself?

NFL: Cincinnati Bengals v Pittsburgh Steelers

Thursday 16th October 12:15AM GMT (17th)/8:15PM Local

Paycor Stadium, Cincinnati

The Cincinnati Bengals battle the Pittsburgh Steelers in an NFL divisional clash at Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati. The Bengals have struggled since losing starting quarterback Joe Burrow. They enter this matchup on a four-game losing streak, with hopes that recent trade acquisition Joe Flacco can help right the ship. Meanwhile, the Steelers enter on a three-game win streak and an overall record of 4-1. Aaron Rodgers seems revitalised in the Black and Gold, having thrown for 10 touchdowns and over 1000 yards through the first five games of the season. If their strong performances continue, Pittsburgh will be well on their way to their first divisional title since 2020. While the Bengals won the teams’ most recent meeting, they have not beaten the Steelers at Paycor since 2021. Will that change on Thursday night?

PREM Rugby: Gloucester Rugby v Bristol Bears

Friday 17th October 6:45PM GMT/7:45PM Local

Kingsholm Stadium, Gloucester

Gloucester clash with local rivals Bristol in a PREM Rugby fixture at Kingsholm Stadium in Gloucester. Gloucester are still searching for their first win of the season. While they have shown flashes of competitiveness, the overhauled squad is still clearly finding its feet. Meanwhile, Bristol are once again running the unrelenting attacking strategy that powered them to last year’s semifinals. They enter this match-up with a record of 2-1, the only blemish on their record being a lopsided 50-17 rout at the hands of Saracens earlier this month. Bristol has a wealth of attacking options, with every match seemingly bringing a new name to the score sheet. However, their defence has been leaky at times, and it remains to be seen if they can find an appropriate balance to keep themselves moving up the league table. Despite their slow start, Gloucester are riding a two-game winning streak against the Bears. Can they extend it to three today?

Premier League: Crystal Palace v AFC Bournemouth

Saturday 18th October 2:00PM GMT/3:00PM Local

Selhurst Park, London

Crystal Palace host Bournemouth in the Premier League at Selhurst Park in London. Crystal Palace find themselves in sixth amidst one of the team’s best starts to a Premier League season. The strike partnership of Ismaïla Sarr and Jean-Philippe Mateta is paying dividends, and there is undeniable energy surrounding the South London club. Meanwhile, Bournemouth find themselves in fourth as the Cherries have seen an impressive start of their own. Bournemouth are unbeaten in the league since an opening-day loss to Liverpool and have cemented themselves in the thick of the title race. Antoine Semenyo is having a career season - after scoring 20 goals for Bournemouth across his first three seasons on the south coast, he already has six in seven games to start this campaign. Can Palace find their first win against Bournemouth since 2023? Or will the Cherries continue their unbelievable start to the season?

Formula 1: United States Grand Prix

Sunday 19th October 7:00PM GMT/2:00PM Local

Circuit of the Americas, Austin

The Formula 1 season continues with the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin. McLaren’s Oscar Piastri still leads the championship standings by 22 points, but recent results have suddenly made the race for the title much more competitive. With McLaren being kept off the top of the podium for the last three races, defending champion Max Verstappen is now 63 points behind Piastri. If the McLarens continue to falter over the final six races of the season, there is a chance Verstappen pulls off one of the greatest comebacks in F1 history. Charles Leclerc is the defending race champion, but Verstappen has traditionally ruled the Texan track in recent years. Can the McLaren return to form? Or will Verstappen continue his historic climb towards a once-improbable championship?
