WTA Tour: Cincinnati Open Day 5
Monday 11th August 3:00PM GMT/11:00AM Local
Lindner Family Tennis Center, Cincinnati
The Cincinnati Open continues on the ATP & WTA Tours at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Cincinnati. This all-important warm-up for the US Open once again promises to potentially continue the blossoming rivalry between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, with Sinner entering as the defending champion. Meanwhile, Aryna Sabalenka will look to defend her women’s singles title in a draw that once again contains all her major rivals, such as Coco Gauff, Iga Świątek, and Jessica Pegula. Both singles events continue until their respective Finals on the 18th.
Cricket in Australia: Australia v South Africa (2nd T20I)
Tuesday 12th August 9:15AM GMT/6:45PM Local
Marrara Oval, Marrara
Australia host South Africa at the Marrara Oval in Darwin for the second of three T20 International matches. Tim David’s 83 runs off 52 balls was the key to Australia’s victory in the first T20 between the two sides, despite an excellent four-wicket outing from South African bowler Kwena Maphaka. South Africa came close to topping the hosts, but three-wicket hauls from Josh Hazelwood and Ben Dwarshuis saw the visitors fall 17 runs short. South Africa will need a more consistent batting performance to level the series.
UEFA Super Cup: Paris Saint-Germain v Tottenham Hotspur
Wednesday 13th August 7:00PM GMT/9:00PM Local
Stadio Friuli, Udine
PSG take on Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Super Cup at Stadio Friuli in Udine. Entering the season as Champions League holders and four-time defending Ligue 1 champions, PSG made one major transfer - adding a potential new first-choice goalkeeper in Lucas Chevalier. After also reaching the Final of the FIFA Club World Cup over the summer, PSG will be confident of another successful season. Meanwhile, Spurs will look to start the season off right under new manager Thomas Frank. After losing captain Son Heung-min, the London outfit will look to a new forward partnership of Mohammed Kudus and Mathys Tel to lead them to success. The Super Cup title up for grabs will be the first for either team.
PGA Tour: BMW Championship
Thursday 14th August 1:21PM GMT/9:21AM Local
Caves Valley Golf Club, Owings Mills
The FedEx Cup Playoffs continue with the BMW Championship at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills. The 50-strong field will be reduced to 30 ahead of the TOUR Championship next week. After a scintillating performance at the St. Jude Championship last week, Scottie Scheffler retains a significant lead atop the standings. However, he will now have to contend with Rory McIlroy as the Northern Irish golfer returns to the field after skipping the action in Memphis last week. The biggest risers after last week are Justin Rose and J.J. Spaun, who both vaulted into the top five in the FedEx Cup standings after going to a thrilling playoff at TPC Southwind.
Super League: Wigan Warriors v Hull KR
Friday 15th August 7:00PM GMT/8:00PM Local
The Brick Community Stadium, Wigan
Wigan Warriors face Hull Kingston Rovers in a high-stakes Super League match at the Brick Community Stadium in Wigan. The clash pits first versus second, with the Warriors trailing Hull in the standings by four points. Despite six matches remaining in the season, Hull have already secured a place in the playoffs, a feat that Wigan can match with a win in front of their home crowd. Wigan boast the third highest try scorer in the league in Jai Field, while Hull KR have the second in Mikey Lewis. The Warriors have already beaten Hull KR once this season, can they do it again?
UFC: UFC 319: du Plessis vs. Chimaev
Saturday 16th August 02:00AM GMT (17th)/9:00PM Local
United Center, Chicago
UFC 319 takes place at the United Center in Chicago. The event is headlined by a title defense for reigning Middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis, who faces the undefeated Khamzat Chimaev. For MMA fans, the fight is a fascinating matchup, as du Plessis has seemed unstoppable in the Octagon, but hasn’t fought a fighter like Chimaev. Meanwhile, questions remain as to whether Chimaev has the necessary endurance to stay competitive if the fight hits the championship rounds, as he has never contested a five-round fight. Also on the fight card, Lerone Murphy will look to add to his case for a Featherweight title shot as he fights Aaron Pico.
Premier League: Manchester United v Arsenal
Sunday 17th August 3:30PM GMT/4:30PM Local
Old Trafford, Manchester
The opening weekend of the Premier League continues as Manchester United host Arsenal at Old Trafford. United are hoping to bounce back from their shocking 15th-place finish last season with a revitalised squad headlined by new signings Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Šeško. Meanwhile, Arsenal will look to break a streak of three consecutive second-place finishes and win their first Premier League title since 2004. To do this, the Gunners have also spent big in the transfer market, bringing in defensive midfielder Martín Zubimendi, winger Noni Madueke and striker Viktor Gyökeres. Whoever wins this clash of English football titans will likely set the tone for their season.
