Event of the Day: India v Pakistan

The event of the day is the ICC Champions Trophy Final between holders India and bitter rivals Pakistan at the Oval in London - their first time playing against each other in an ICC world 50-over ODI final. Both teams won their semi-finals relatively easily - Pakistan knocking out hosts England with a convincing 8 wicket victory and India beating Bangladesh by 9 wickets in an equally impressive win. It appears that India's strength lies with the bat with Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli all amongst the top 5 run scorers for the tournament and of course they have MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh in their lineup too. Whereas Pakistan seem stronger with the bowling aspect of their game - Hasan Ali and Junaid Khan both in the top 5 wicket takers for the tournament and the impressive Mohammed Amir passed fit after missing the semi-final. India are favourites and have won 8 of the 10 games played between the sides in global tournaments, however Pakistan have found some great form in the last ten days and we should be in for a thrilling final.

Honourable mentions around the globe go to the fourth round of the US Open at Erin Hills. Day 2 of the America's Cup Final, with Peter Burling's New Zealand leading Jimmy Spithill's USA 1-0 after the first day of racing. There is exciting rowing World Cup action from Poznan in Poland. Also from Poland, Germany are up against the Czech Republic and it is Denmark versus Italy in the UEFA European Under-21 Championship.
