Event of the Day: British and Irish Lions v Māori All Blacks

The event of the day is the British and Irish Lions Tour match against the Māori All Blacks. Lions manager Warren Gatland has hailed today's game as 'one of the unique sporting spectacles’. Each Māori All Black player has to be of a Māori whakapapa (ancestry) to be approved to play for the team. Gatland will be hoping his Lions can get back to winning ways after Wednesday's narrow 23-22 defeat to the Highlanders. Irish back row Peter O'Mahony will captain the Lions with fellow Irishman Johnny Sexton starting at number 10. There is slight concern in the Lions camp after fly-half Owen Farrell suffered a quadriceps strain during training on Thursday which has ruled him out of today's game. This will be the Lions penultimate tour match before facing New Zealand in Auckland in the first test next Saturday.

Honourable mentions around the globe go to the Under-21 group games in Poland. 2015 runner-up Portugal take on Serbia in Bydgoszcz and four time winners Spain clash with Macedonia in Gydnia. In the America's Cup, the Challenger - Emirates Team New Zealand take on the Defender - Oracle Team USA in the first two races of the final.  There is a good selection of Hockey World League Semi/finals matches with England playing Malaysia, China taking on South Korea, Scotland clashing with the Netherlands and Canada up against India. It is the quarter-finals at the World Cup of Pool at York Hall in London. Round 3 of the US Open at Erin Hill takes place as we approach the conclusion of the second major of the year. There is Challenge Cup action from the Halliwell Jones Stadium, 2016 runners-up Warrington Wolves take on Wigan Warriors for a place in the semi-final.

Whatever you are watching today, enjoy!
