Event of the Day: ATP Aegon Championships

The event of the day is the first day of the ATP Aegon Championships at the Queen’s Club in London. The grass courts at one of the oldest tennis tournaments in the world are well renowned, with Andy Murray once stating they are 'arguably the best in the world.' It is an excellent warm-up for Wimbledon with various players famously doing the Queen's/Wimbledon double in one year, such as John McEnroe (1981, 1984), Jimmy Connors (1982), Boris Becker (1985), Pete Sampras (1995, 1999), Lleyton Hewitt (2002), Rafael Nadal (2008) and Andy Murray (2013, 2016). In the men’s singles on the centre court at Queen's - Adrian Mannarino plays Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Grigor Dimitrov takes on Ryan Harrison, Kyle Edmund challenges Denis Shapovalov and it is Donald Young versus Nick Kyrgios.

Honourable mentions around the globe go to a good selection of County Championship cricket with Essex hosting Warwickshire, Lancashire playing Hampshire at Old Trafford and at Lord's Middlesex are up against Yorkshire. England play Slovakia and it is Poland versus Sweden in the UEFA European Under-21 Championship in Poland. In a full programme of four matches at Hockey World League Semi-finals, the game between the Netherlands and Canada is the pick of the matches.

Whatever you are watching today, enjoy!
