Event of the Day: US Open Day 4

Our event of the day.....

is the day four of the US Open - with more round of 64 matches at Flushing Meadows, New York. In a year of notable absentees, the pre-tournament favourites in the men’s singles, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, are still going strong after beating Frances Tiafoe of USA and Serbian Dušan Lajović respectively in the last round. Interestingly, Nadal recently commented on the timing of British number 1 (and tournament 2nd seed) Andy Murray’s withdrawal from the competition. Murray’s late decision not to take part in the competition means Nadal and Federer would meet in the semi-finals - as opposed to the final that many people wanted.

Meanwhile in the women’s singles, conqueror of number 6 seed Angelique Kerber, Naomi Osaka of Japan attempts to continue her fine form while number one seed Karolína Plíšková also looks to extend her stay in the competition.

Honourable mentions...

around the globe go to the beginning of the latest round of European World Cup Qualifiers with France versus the Netherlands a standout match.

In basketball, Eurobasket 2017 gets underway hosted by four countries - Finland, Israel, Romania and Turkey, and in cricket Sri Lanka host India in the first One Day International of a two-game series in Colombo. Leeds Rhinos take on Hull FC in Super League and it’s the first day of the PGA European Tour, D+D Real Czech Masters.

Whatever you’re watching, enjoy!
