Event of the Day: Weltklasse Zürich

Our event of the day...

is the Weltklasse Zürich – acting as the first of the two finals of the IAAF Diamond League 2017 – at the Letzigrund in Zürich. There is an excellent line-up of athletes with 17 World Champions from London 2017 and 14 reigning Olympic Champions.

Highlights of the day include the men’s 5,000m with British six-time world and four-time Olympic champion Mo Farah against the Ethiopian current world champion Muktar Edris. The women’s 200m where the Jamaican Olympic champion Elaine Thompson battles the Dutch world champion Dafne Schippers. The men’s javelin where the German world champion Johannes Vetter clashes with fellow countryman and Olympic champion Thomas Röhler. The women's 3000m Steeplechase where the 20 year-old Bahraini Olympic champion and world record holder Ruth Jebet is up against United States world champion Emma Coburn. With 16 Diamond League finals it is set up perfectly for a wonderful night of athletics.

Honourable mentions...

around the globe go to the third quarter-final of the T20 Blast with Notts Outlaws up against Somerset at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. In the NRL, the Broncos clash with the Eels at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane. The ATP Winston-Salem Open and WTA Connecticut Open each reach the fifth day of the tournament. It is day 4 of the Badminton World Championships in Glasgow. There is a hilly stage of the Vuelta a España with a distance of 204.4km from Villarreal to Sagunto.
