Event of the Day: England v West Indies

Our event of the day...

is the fifth and final day of the second test match between England and West Indies at Headingley in Leeds. It has been a wonderful test match so far with strong performances from both teams at different stages. West Indies are a transformed team in comparison to their performance at Edgbaston in the last test - with an impressive bowling effort in England's first innings and with the bat in their first innings, it looked like the match was heading in their favour. However, a combination of some dropped catches and a determined English batting effort in their second innings has seen England now fall into pole position for victory. Ben Stokes, Joe Root, Chris Woakes, Dawid Malan, Mark Stoneman and Moeen Ali all scored 50s in a total of 490 runs for 8 wickets before England declared setting the Windies a victory target of 322. The West Indies survived a tricky six over passage of play before the close on the fourth day and sit on 5 runs. So today all results are possible with England requiring 10 wickets and the West Indies requiring another 317 runs - it should be a fascinating day of cricket.

Honourable mentions..
