Event of the Day: CONCACAF Gold Cup Final

Our event of the day...

is the CONCACAF Gold Cup Final with USA up against Jamaica at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. Since been founded in 1991, the Gold Cup has been dominated by Mexico and USA who have won the trophy 7 times and 5 times respectively, Canada secured their only victory in 2000.

Three days ago the Jamaican defender Kemar Lawrence scored a late winner against Mexico in the 88th minute in the semi-final allowing Jamaica the chance to be the fourth team to win the Gold Cup. However the Reggae Boyz will have their work cut out for them considering their record against USA stands at 14 defeats, 8 draws and just the 2 victories, it is worth noting that one of those victories was in the 2015 Gold Cup semi-final though.

The host nation USA are on a good run of form winning their last four games and are the heavy favourites. Players to keep an eye on are Jamaicans Darren Mattocks, Romario Williams and Andre Blake and USA players Jozy Altidore, Michael Bradley and Tim Howard. It will be a thrilling 90 minutes at Levi's Stadium with the potential of extra time and penalties.
