Event of the Day: Tour de France Stage 17

Our event of the day...

is stage 17 of the Tour de France, where the riders race from La Mure to Serre Chevalier. This 183km mountain stage has some serious climbs with the 4,498 ft category 2 ascent of Col d'Ornon, the 6,781 ft Hors catégorie climb of the Col de la Croix de Fer, the 5,138 ft category 1 ascent of Col du Télégraphe and finally the 8,678 ft Hors catégorie climb of the Col du Galibier.

This final climb is for the Souvenir Henri Desgrange, which marks the highest climb of the Tour. Team Sky rider Chris Froome currently leads the general classification from Astana's Fabio Aru by 18 seconds and home cyclist Romain Bardet for AG2R La Mondiale lies in third, 23 seconds behind. This stage should prove to be one of the most exciting of the Tour.

It is the quarter-finals of the Women's Lacrosse World Cup with the match between England and Wales the pick of the games.
