Event of the Day: England v South Africa

Our event of the day...

is the first of the Women’s Cricket World Cup semi-finals as England take on South Africa at the Bristol County Ground.

Two weeks ago at the same ground in the group stages, England beat South Africa by 68 runs. The tournament's leading run scorer Tammy Beaumont and wicket keeper Sarah Taylor combined that day to reach the highest partnership in Women's World Cup history with 275.

South Africa chased bravely becoming the first Women's team to score more than 300 runs batting second in a One Day International, however there 305 was not good enough to challenge England's 373.

In today's game South Africa will be hoping for big performances from tournament leading wicket takers Dane Van Niekerk and Marizanne Kapp. With England's strengths seen to be with the the bat and South Africa's with the ball it should make for a thrilling contest.

Honourable mentions...

around the globe go to the Tour de France stage 16, a 165km flat stage from the Le Puy-en-Velay to Romans-sur-Isère.
