Event of the Day: UEFA European Under-21 Championship Day 1

The event of the day is the first day of the UEFA European Under-21 Championship in Poland. The 21st edition of the tournament gets underway with defending champions Sweden taking on England at the Kielce City Stadium. Sweden are aiming to become the fifth nation to win back-to-back tournaments after they beat Portugal in dramatic fashion on penalties in the 2015 final. Swedish striker Joel Asoro is out due to suspension. Hosts Poland get their campaign underway at Arena Lublin with their clash with Slovakia in the second Group A game. It is the first time the two nations have met at the under-21 level. There is always a unique buzz around the tournament, as it has a history of kicking of successful football careers such as that of Luís Figo, Petr Čech, Iker Casillas and Andrea Pirlo. It will be an exciting and intriguing watch as Europe's best youngsters take centre stage.

Honourable mentions around the globe go to the second round of the US Open at the Erin Hills golf course in Wisconsin. There is Super League action from the John Smiths Stadium as the Huddersfield Giants host St Helens. In the NRL, South Sydney Rabbitohs welcome the Gold Coast Titans to the ANZ Stadium in Sydney. Round 2 of the World Cup of Pool resumes with Chinese Taipei facing Poland, China clashing with Germany and Scotland battling against England B. There are two games in the Hockey World League semi-finals, Pakistan take on Canada and Argentina meet Malaysia.
