Event of the Day: Ulster v Wasps

Our event of the day...

is the opening fixture of this year’s European Rugby Champions Cup between Ulster and Wasps at Kingspan Stadium in Belfast, Norther Ireland. The two teams have had contrasting starts to the season with Ulster winning five of their six games in Conference B of the Guinness Pro14 while Wasps have struggled with only two wins from six Aviva Premiership matches. Most of the build-up to this game has been dominated by Wasps' injury crisis and only having five days to recover from their last match against Saracens on Sunday compared to seven days for their opponents. It will be interesting to see if this manifests itself tonight in what should be an entertaining game of rugby.

Wasps travelled to Kingspan Stadium as recently as August when they won a pre-season friendly 26-15, although this game was played out on the backdrop of notable absentees for both sides due to British and Irish Lions call-ups for Rory Best, Iain Henderson and Jared Payne of Ulster and Wasps players Elliot Daly and James Haskell. Tonight we can expect an excellent confrontation, particularly with Wasps welcoming back key players, Joe Launchbury, Nathan Hughes and Jimmy Gopperth.

Honourable mentions...

around the globe go to the first day of the  US PGA Tour ChampionsSAS Championship at Prestonwood Country Club in Cary, North Carolina. Some timeless names of the game will be taking part, including, Nick Faldo, John Daly, Colin Montgomerie and Bernhard Langer.

At Golf Club Milano in Italy, it’s the second day of the European PGA Tour Italian Open. There are two games in the EFL Championship, with Birmingham City versus Cardiff City at St Andrew’s the standout fixture. India host Australia at Hyderabad in the last T20 match of the series which is currently tied at 1-1. It's the heats of the  2017 World Rowing Coastal Championships. In MLB, it is Game 1 of the best of seven American League Championship Series between the Houston Astros and New York Yankees at Minute Maid Park in Houston.

Whatever you’re watching, enjoy.
