Event of the Day: Belgian F1 Grand Prix

Our event of the day...

is the Formula One Belgian Grand Prix at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps. Lewis Hamilton sits on pole position with Sebastian Vettel number two and Valtteri Bottas third on the grid. Hamilton has impressively taken his 68th career pole position in qualifying - equalling Michael Schumacher’s pole record.

After the 4 week summer break, the 2017 Formula One Championship returns for what should be a thrilling 9 races. In the Drivers' Standings, Vettel holds a 14 point lead over Hamilton who sits 19 points ahead of his teammate Bottas. Whilst in the Constructors' Championship, Mercedes hold a 39 point lead over Ferrari. It is set up to be a thrilling race in Belgium to kick off the second half of the season with the title race excitingly poised.

around the globe go to the final games in the AFL regular season, with the West Coast Eagles up against the Adelaide Crows at the Domain Stadium in Perth as the pick of the games.

In the Premier League, Chelsea play Everton, Liverpool take on Arsenal, Tottenham battle Burnley and West Brom clash with Stoke City. It is day 3 of the second test match between England and the West Indies at Headingley with the Windies leading by 71 runs with five 1st innings wickets still remaining. In MotoGP, it is the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. It is stage 9 of the Vuelta a España with the 174km medium mountain stage from Orihuela to Cumbre del Sol, El Poble Nou de Benitatxell.
