Event of the Day: South Africa versus Australia
Our event of the day is the third day of the 2nd match of the Test series between South Africa and Australia at St. George’s Park in Port Elizabeth. The four Test series will conclude with matches in Cape Town and Johannesburg. Australia took the lead in the series on Monday by winning a heated first Test in Durban by 118 runs.
Day 2 of the current Test in Port Elizabeth started with South Africa at 39 for 1 and finished with the hosts on 263 for 7, leading by 20 runs with three wickets remaining in the 1st innings. This is mainly thanks to a brilliant display by Proteas’ batsman AB de Villiers who was unbeaten on 74 off 81 balls and remained at the crease. Before this match, South African captain Faf du Plessis opted for Lungi Ngidi to play, in front of paceman Morne Morkel, who is therefore left at 297 wickets in Test cricket, and is uncertain to reach the milestone of 300. The Baggy Greens will aim to get three quick wickets in the morning and then bat all day against a challenging South African bowling line-up. Another entertaining day of cricket awaits at St. George’s Park.
Honourable mentions around the globe go to the final day of the Hero Indian Open at the Delhi Golf Club in New Delhi. Home favourite Shubhankar Sharma and Englishman Matthew Wallace head into the decisive day as leaders, both with score of 209 and seven under par. Also in golf, it’s the last day of the Valspar Championships at the Innisbrook Golf Club in Palm Harbor. It’s Day 4 of the ATP World Tour and Day 5 of the WTA World Tour BNP Paribas Open at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells. In the Scottish Premier League, the Old Firm derby is taking place as Rangers host Celtic at Ibrox in Glasgow. The NBA has the duel between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Golden State Warriors at the Target Center in Minneapolis, while the New Orleans Pelicans take on the Utah Jazz at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans. In the NHL, the Pittsburgh Penguins face off with the Dallas Stars at the PG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh. In Serie A, Inter welcome Napoli to the San Siro in Milan. In the NRL, the Titans come up against the Raiders at the Cbus Super Stadium in Robina.
