Event of the Day: Manchester United versus Liverpool

Our event of the day is the Premier League match between Manchester United and Liverpool at Old Trafford in Manchester. The 200th North West Derby is the game of the weekend. United hold the edge with 79 wins over the 65 triumphs for Liverpool, although the last four matches didn’t affect this record as they all resulted in draws. This includes the October 0-0 draw at Anfield earlier in the Premier League campaign. Both sides currently occupy Champions League positions in the league with United sitting in second place with 62 points, and Liverpool in third with 60 points – the Reds could overtake their rivals with a win today.

The Red Devils are unbeaten in four games in all competitions and snatched all three points from Crystal Palace on Monday, coming from 2-0 down to win it 3-2 in injury time, thanks to Nemanja Matić’s goal. Liverpool reached the Champions League quarter-finals on Tuesday by beating Porto 5-0 on aggregate and are undefeated in seven straight matches. United have won ten of their last 13 Premiership home clashes with the Reds. If he scores today, forward Romelu Lukaku will become the fifth-youngest player to score 100 Premier League goals. Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has found the net seven times in the last seven games and is the league’s leading goalscorer alongside Tottenham’s Harry Kane with 24 goals. The visitors have scored the highest number of away goals in the league with 34 goals. It should be a thrilling duel of two Premiership heavyweights at Old Trafford.

Honourable mentions around the globe go to the 5th ODI between New Zealand and England at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch. This is the series decider as each team has won two ODIs so far. In the Six Nations, there are two huge games in Round 4: leaders Ireland host Scotland at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin; whilst France take on England at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis, Paris. It’s Day 3 of the ATP World Tour and Day 4 of the WTA World Tour BNP Paribas Open at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells. It’s the second day of the 2nd Test between South Africa and Australia at St. George’s Park in Port Elizabeth. In La Liga, Sevilla welcome Valencia to the Ramón Sanchez Pizjuán in Seville. It’s Day 3 at both, the Valspar Championships at the Innisbrook Golf Club in Palm Harbor, and the Hero Indian Open at the Delhi Golf Club in New Delhi. In the NBA, the Oklahoma City Thunder face the San Antonio Spurs at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City. In the NHL, the pick of the games is the duel between the San Jose Sharks and the Washington Capitals at the SAP Center in San Jose.

Whatever you’re watching, enjoy!
