Our event of the day

is the first game of the 2017 MLB World Series as the Los Angeles Dodgers go toe-to-toe with the Houston Astros at Dodger Stadium. It’s hard to argue with either of these sides making it to the World Series - both teams have looked good all season. The Dodgers won the National League West title with the best regular-season record in MLB, while the Astros finished top of the American League West table a whole twenty-one wins ahead of the Los Angeles Angels in second. Two of the MLB’s biggest-hitting teams square up in the biggest event in baseball’s calendar – it’s set to be an entertaining game.

While both teams finished top of their respective divisions, the Dodgers and the Astros had to navigate very different League Championship Series to book their place in the World Series. The Dodgers had a fairly comfortable time beating the Chicago Cubs 4-1, winning the decisive game 11-1 at Wrigley Field. The Astros meanwhile were taken to a final seventh game by the New York Yankees and had to win their last two matches to complete a comeback from 3-2 down to win 4-3. The Dodgers last won a World Series in 1988 while the Astros have only ever reached the season finale once – losing 4-0 to the Chicago White Sox in 2005. Getting off to a good start in this final series will be crucial for both teams as they look to win the biggest prize in baseball.
