Event of the day

Our event of the day

is the Brazilian Série A game between Botafogo and Corinthians at the Estádio Olímpico Nilton Santos in Rio de Janeiro. Corinthians currently top the Série A table - a whole nine points clear of their nearest rivals Grêmio, while Botafogo sit in seventh. As the competition enters its final months, there is everything to play for at the top of the table and both teams will want to take important points from tonight. The Olympic Stadium certainly provides an impressive setting for tonight’s game which promises to be a closely-fought affair.

Despite their commanding lead in the league, Corinthians have not been convincing in recent weeks - their run of only one win in their last five games in the league, includes a 0-0 draw with Grêmio last time out, and is supplemented by a 7-0 hammering in a friendly at the hands of Deportivo La Coruña. However, Corinthians are masters of grinding out results away from home and have lost only twice on the road all season. Tonight provides a great opportunity for both teams to bounce back from uninspiring performances last time out (Botafogo drew 1-1 with 19th place Avaí) and should be an entertaining game.

Honourable mentions

around the globe go to the Philadelphia Eagles hosting the Washington Redskins at Lincoln Financial Field in an NFL clash. Both teams rank highly in terms of offense this year and the Eagles ran out 30-17 winners when the two sides met in D.C. in September. There are two NHL games, including the New York Rangers versus the San Jose Sharks at Madison Square Garden. In the ATP Swiss Indoors in Basel, Denis Shapovalov is up against Yuichi Sugita in the Round of 32. The UCI Tour of Guangxi continues in China and there are eight NBA games including the Dallas Mavericks hosting the Golden State Warriors at the American Airlines Center.

Whatever you’re watching, enjoy!
