Our event of the day

is the latest round of games from the ATP Swiss Indoors in Basel – Switzerland’s most prestigious sporting event. Despite the withdrawal of Rafael Nadal due to a knee injury, there are plenty of superstars attending the tournament, including the likes of Roger Federer (playing in his hometown), Marin Čilić and Juan Martín del Potro. As the race for a place at the ATP World Tour Finals in London hots up, each player will understand the importance of this tournament. With two places still available, the likes of del Potro and David Goffin will hope to gain crucial points in Basel to book their place in London in two weeks time. Del Potro’s game against João Sousa of Portugal today will be one of many tense matches. Many players will fancy their chances of claiming victory in Basel for different reasons.

It is hard to look past Roger Federer who will be returning to his home town where he has won the title an impressive seven times. His number one seed reflects this and having already qualified for the ATP World Tour Finals, he will be able to play with a certain degree of freedom. Marin Čilić will take confidence from his success here last year, beating Kei Nishikori in the final while del Potro is in good form having recently won the Stockholm Open. As the tournament progresses and the stakes get higher we can expect to see some very entertaining tennis.

around the globe go to the second game of the MLB World Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Houston Astros at Dodger Stadium. Both teams won their respective league titles in the regular season and have looked good value for their place in the most prestigious series in baseball - Game 1 saw the Dodgers come out on top with a 3-1 victory and they now lead the series 1-0. Another tennis tournament is also taking place as the ATP Erste Bank Open goes into its third day in Vienna including top seed Alexander Zverev in action against Gilles Simon. In cricket, India face New Zealand in Pune for the second ODI match of the series. New Zealand won the first game by 6 wickets in Mumbai. It’s the second day of the cycling Six Day Series in London, while there are ten games in the NBA including the Golden State Warriors versus the Toronto Raptors at the Oracle Arena.
