Event of the Day: Houston Rockets v San Antonio Spurs

Our event of the day is the NBA clash between the Houston Rockets and the San Antonio Spurs at the Toyota Center in Houston. Houston currently have the best win percentage in the NBA with a 22-4 record and are the in-form team of the league with a string of 11 wins, including a 108-96 home triumph over the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday. San Antonio are two places below them in the Western Conference, in third position with a 19-9 record, but have just interrupted a run of four victories with a 95-89 away defeat to the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday, in another all Texas duel. This is the first meeting of the two sides, not counting the pre-season, since the 2016-17 semi-finals series of the Western Conference play-offs, won 4-2 by the Spurs. The Rockets are a high scoring team, regularly posting over 100 points this season, they have only scored under 100 twice in the season, the last time was back in October when they had their lowest scoring game, a 103-89 defeat to the Memphis Grizzlies – the team that has inflicted upon them two of just four of their defeats this term.
Shooting guard and MVP candidate James Harden is Houston’s and the league’s most prolific player with 31.6 points per game. The exciting news for the Spurs despite their defeat against the Mavericks was that star player Kawhi Leonard has finally returned from injury, there will be a big boost from having one of the best players in the league back in the line-up. It should be a great evening for basketball fans at the Toyota Center this evening.
