Event of the Day: Australia v England

Our event of the day is the opening day of the 3rd Test match of the 2017-18 Ashes series between Australia and England at the Western Australia Cricket Association (WACA) ground in East Perth. In the first two Tests in Brisbane and Adelaide, the Australian players have been clinical at key moments and are now leading 2-0 in the series. Over the next five days in Perth, they have a chance to regain the Ashes by taking an unassailable 3-0 lead in the current series, and also take the overall lead in the historical series, which is currently tied at 32 series each.
England will be desperate to put in a big performance and get a result at the WACA after what has been a disappointing tour so far. This will be a tough task for England, considering the venue of the third Test - they have recorded only one win, back in 1978, out of 13 Ashes Tests played at the WACA ground. Significantly, this will be the last Ashes Test match to be held at the WACA as the new Perth Stadium opens in 2018. England will be hoping that Alastair Cook shows his best form in his 150th Test match appearance. Australia are likely to call-up all-rounder Mitchell Marsh in place of batsman Peter Handscomb to help balance the Australian bowling attack. Compelling cricket is ensured on the first day of the 3rd Test at the WACA that could decide the winner of the Ashes series.
