The Ocean Race is a premier round-the-world sailing competition in which professional teams race high-performance yachts across multiple ocean stages, testing navigation, teamwork and endurance. Unlike stadium-based sports, the event is staged at sea, with host-port race villages welcoming spectators at selected stops. The 2022–23 edition began in Alicante, Spain, and finished in Genoa, Italy, after seven legs and visits to ports including Cape Town, Itajaí, Newport and Aarhus. Competing teams in the IMOCA fleet included 11th Hour Racing Team, Team Holcim-PRB, Team Malizia, Biotherm Racing and GUYOT environnement – Team Europe. American skipper Charlie Enright led 11th Hour Racing Team to victory, making it the first American-flagged team to win the overall race. Sailors compete in demanding conditions, often sailing continuously for days while managing weather, equipment and onboard responsibilities. The Ocean Race has a long history dating back to 1973, when it was known as the Whitbread Round the World Race. Its route, participating teams and yacht classes can vary by edition, so fans should check official race updates for current schedules, results and crew information.
