Event of the Day: Austrian MotoGP

Our event of the day...

is the eleventh round of the MotoGP World Championship at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria. Ducati’s Andrea Iannone took first place in last year’s race, in what was the first time the Championship had travelled to Austria since 1997. After last week’s win at the Czech Grand Prix, Mark Márquez gave himself a 14-point advantage over second placed rider Maverick Viñales, and will be hoping to have increased the gap come the end of today’s race.

Another rider in contention today is Dani Pedrosa, who finished in second place at the Czech Grand Prix - therefore moving into fifth position in the current MotoGP standings. Andrea Dovizioso and Valentino Rossi currently occupy third and fourth place in the Championship, and will also be hoping for success in Austria, before moving on to the British Grand Prix at the end of August. Márquez is on pole followed by the Ducati teammates in second and third respectively, Dovizioso and Jorge Lorenzo. It is all set for a thrilling race.
