Event of the Day: Western and Southern Open

Our event of the day...

is the first round of the 2017 Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati, United States. The event, is both an ATP Masters 1000 tournament and a WTA Premier 5 event, is played on outdoor hard courts and is the oldest tennis tournament in the United States. Past champions at the Cincinnati Masters include seven time champion Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal on the ATP tour and Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova on the WTA tour.

British world number one Andy Murray has won the trophy twice but has withdrawn this year due to his hip injury. Matches to look out for today include Frenchman Richard Gasquet up against Australian John-Patrick Smith in the men's singles and in the women's singles CoCo Vandeweghe battles fellow American Madison Keys. It should be a great week of tennis with the US Open just 2 weeks away.

Honourable mentions...

around the globe go to the ODI match between England U19s and India U19s at the Bristol County Ground. In MLB, there are eleven games today with the New York derby between the Yankees and Mets the pick of the day. It is the first round of the DFB Cup in Germany with Hansa Rostock versus Hertha Berlin at the Ostseestadion in Rostock the match to watch.

Whatever you’re watching, enjoy!
