Welcome to April with some must-see sporting action. On Monday, Texas and TCU battle it out in the NCAA D1 Women’s Basketball Tournament. The Denver Nuggets and Minnesota Timberwolves face off on Tuesday in an NBA game loaded with playoff implications. Wednesday sees Liverpool host Everton in another Premier League instalment of the Merseyside Derby. On Thursday, the Vegas Golden Knights welcome the Winnipeg Jets to Las Vegas in the NHL. And on Friday, the first event of the new Grand Slam Track league gets underway in Jamaica.

There is also plenty to enjoy at the weekend. On Saturday, Aintree sees the running of the 177th Grand National. And on Sunday, Toulouse host Sale Sharks in a European Rugby Champions Cup Round of 16 match.

NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Tournament: Texas v TCU

Texas face TCU at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama; where a place in the women’s Final Four is on the line. Number 1 seed, Texas, are looking to make their first Final Four appearance since 2003 behind its star tandem of Madison Booker and Rori Harmon. Meanwhile, TCU are appearing in their first ever Elite Eight game, thankful to their own powerhouse duo of Hailey Van Lith and Sedona Prince. All teams left in the tournament are eyeing the Final Four later this week and Sunday’s National Championship Game.

NBA: Denver Nuggets v Minnesota Timberwolves

As the end of the NBA regular season nears, the Denver Nuggets host the Minnesota Timberwolves at Ball Arena. Denver enter the matchup fighting to secure the second seed in the Western Conference and hope to have their second-leading scorer Jamal Murray back from injury in time for the game. Meanwhile, Minnesota are hoping to make a late-season push that will see them rise out of the Play-In tournament places and into the coveted top 6 positions in the standings.

Premier League: Liverpool v Everton

After over 2 weeks away, Premier League action resumes with Liverpool hosting Everton at Anfield in the Merseyside Derby. Liverpool have nearly wrapped up the Premier League title, but Everton came away with a thrilling 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture of this clash earlier in the season. Can the Toffees once again stun the presumptive league champions?

NHL: Vegas Golden Knights v Winnipeg Jets

The Vegas Golden Knights host the Winnipeg Jets with just a few games remaining in the NHL regular season. The Golden Knights hold a lead in the Pacific Division and are riding a six-game win streak. Meanwhile, the Jets have already qualified for the playoffs and are pushing for the franchise’s first Presidents’ Trophy. With the Jets also boasting two of the league’s top ten goalscorers, it will be a challenging game for the Golden Knights, in this must-see matchup.

Grand Slam Track: Kingston Day 1

The inaugural event of Grand Slam Track takes place in Kingston, Jamaica. The new competition, founded by athletics legend Michael Johnson, will see some of the best track talent in the world face off in high-octane races. On opening day, be sure you don’t miss stars like Gabby Thomas, Dina-Asher Smith, Kenny Bednarek, and Fred Kerley in action.

Jump Racing: The Grand National

Aintree Racecourse, Liverpool

The 177th Grand National will run at Aintree on Saturday. Out of the 34 entries, Iroko, Intense Raffles, and Stumptown are the betting favourites. However, defending race champion I Am Maximus sits just behind this trio with the fourth-best odds. The race is expected to be run under dry and cold conditions, meaning that the track should be perfect for racing. However, could a surprise winner emerge from the pack?

European Rugby Champions Cup: Toulouse v Sale Sharks

Defending European Rugby Champions Cup champion Toulouse continue their title defence as they host Sale Sharks at the Stadium de Toulouse. Toulouse finished second in their pool, going undefeated but losing out to Bordeaux on try bonus points. Meanwhile, Sale, who last reached the Champions Cup Quarterfinals in 2022, finished third in their pool behind Toulon and Glasgow Warriors. While Toulouse are heavily favoured, can Sale shock the rugby world?
