Event of the Day: US Open Men's Singles Final

Our event of the day...

is the Men’s Singles Final of the US Open between Rafael Nadal and South Africa’s Kevin Anderson at Flushing Meadows, New York. Both of the semi-finals were decided within four sets as 28th seed Anderson beat 12th seeded Spaniard Pablo Carreño Busta to reach his first Grand Slam final, while Nadal looked imperious in his win over 24th seed, Argentinian Juan Martín del Potro. The Spaniard will be the heavy favourite, with Anderson the lowest-ranked player to contest the US Open men’s singles final since rankings began - he is currently ranked as number 32 in the world. Anderson will take confidence from the fact that he has beaten higher-seeded players in each of the last two rounds, but this is sure to be his greatest challenge yet.

A Nadal victory will result in his 16th Grand Slam title - meaning he will sit just 3 behind Roger Federer in the all time rankings. We are poised for a gripping conclusion to what has been a fascinating tournament.
