Event of the Day: German MotoGP

The event of the day is the German MotoGP at the Sachsenring. Last weekend’s race saw the seven time world champion Valentino Rossi on his Yamaha claim his first Grand Prix win of the season in a thrilling race at the TT Circuit Assen. The win has moved him into third place in the world championship table, he is now 7 points behind Italian Andrea Dovizioso, who leads the current standings. The top four riders in the championship race are separated by just 11 points - that is the tightest margin after eight races in Moto GP history. Last year saw current world champion Marc Marquez on his Honda win at the Sachsenring - this year he will be going for his eighth win in a row at the circuit (previously he has won once in Moto3, twice in Moto2 and the last four MotoGP races). The circuit has a long history of producing thrilling racing, for example in 2009 it produced one of the most memorable on the track battles between Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo. A track that delivers fun and exciting racing, this for sure will be an enjoyable watch.

Honourable mentions around the globe go to two Super League clashes which see Salford Red Devils host Huddersfield Giants and Wigan Warriors clash with Widnes Vikings at the DW Stadium. The FIFA Confederations Cup Final takes place at the Krestovsky Stadium in Saint Petersburg with Germany battling Chile. There are ODI cricket internationals between the West Indies and India and Sri Lanka clash with Zimbabwe. In the NRL, Newcastle Knights welcome Wests Tigers and South Sydney Rabbitohs host Penrith Panthers. There are three fixtures in the AFL with Essendon hosting the Brisbane Lions, Collingwood visiting Hawthorn, and Fremantle taking on St Kilda at the Subiaco Oval. It is the final of the Hockey World League Semi-Finals between the Netherlands and China in Brussels.

Whatever you are watching, enjoy!
