Event of the day

Our event of the day...

is the Formula One Hungarian Grand Prix at the Hungaroring near Budapest. Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel qualified in pole position with teammate Kimi Räikkönen directly behind him securing a Ferrari one-two on the grid. It is a Mercedes second row with Valtteri Bottas in third and Lewis Hamilton in fourth after he suffered a frustrating qualifying session, regularly complaining of tyre issues.

The Drivers' Championship is excitingly poised with Hamilton just one point behind Vettel, but it is likely that gap will grow considering how hard it will be for the British driver to move up from fourth considering the Hungaroring is known for the difficulty of overtaking. Mercedes have a comfortable lead in the Constructors' Championship but it is looking like it will be a good weekend for Ferrari unless Bottas and Hamilton can turn their weekend around and put in some sensational performances. Before we move into the F1 summer break this should be an exciting race with the leading teams trying desperately to hold the advantage as the season enters it's second half.

Honourable mentions...

around the globe go to the second game of the Challenge Cup semi-finals as Wigan Warriors clash with Salford Red Devils at the Halliwell Jones Stadium. The winner will face Hull FC at Wembley Stadium on 26th August.

It is day 4 of the third test match between England and South Africa at the Oval - England lead by 252 runs with 9 second innings wickets in hand. It is the final of the German Tennis Championships in Hamburg with German Florian Mayer up against his namesake - Argentinian Leonardo Mayer.

There are three quarter-finals from the UEFA Women's Championship - England take on France, Austria are up against Spain and Germany play Denmark. There are three AFL matches with Western Bulldogs versus Essendon the pick of the games. There are two NRL games with Melbourne Storm hosting Manly Warringah Sea Eagles the match to watch.

Whatever you're watching, enjoy!
