Event of the Day: Hawthorn Hawks v Sydney Swans

Our event of the day...

is the AFL clash between Hawthorn Hawks and Sydney Swans at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The Australian rules football competition featuring the 18 Australian first-class teams is moving into the business end of the season with five rounds remaining before the finals start. Adelaide Crows and Geelong Cats are currently the top teams on the ladder with 52 and 46 points respectively, Sydney who are currently in 6th place on the ladder are very much in the mix for the finals but Hawthorn have their work cut out as they currently sit 6 points behind the 8th and final finals qualifying spot.

In recent memory the two teams met in the 2014 Grand Final, where the Hawks beat the Swans convincingly by 63 points at the MCG. Two years prior the reverse result occurred with Sydney beating Hawthorn by 10 points. It is worth keeping an eye on Sydney's Josh Kennedy who is celebrating his 200th AFL game. It should be an exciting game which also serves as the kick-off of the AFL multicultural round.

Honourable mentions...

around the globe go to the second day of the test match between England and South Africa at the Oval. England reached 171 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in a rain interrupted day.
