Event of the Day: Adelaide Crows v Geelong Cats
Our event of the day...
is the first of the AFL Preliminary finals with the game between the Adelaide Crows and the Geelong Cats at the Adelaide Oval. The Crows booked their place in the Preliminary finals as far back as the first finals week with a 84-48 win over Greater Western Sydney Giants. The Cats, on the other hand, lost their opening match of the finals 91-40 against the Richmond Tigers. This meant they had to navigate an additional round in which they beat the Sydney Swans 98-39. Today is set to be an exciting day of action as the teams battle it out for a place in the AFL Grand Final on Saturday 30th September.
Adelaide come into tonight’s game having topped the AFL table this year, beating Geelong on points difference. Not only were the sides level in the AFL table but they shared a win apiece from their two encounters this season. In June the Cats ran out 96-74 winners at Simonds Stadium in Victoria, while the Crows got their revenge in July winning 91-70 in Adelaide. It’s evident these two teams are very evenly matched and have established themselves as two of the best teams in the league this year. This means tonight is set to be an explosive and engaging encounter.

around the globe go to the first NRL preliminary final between Melbourne Storm and Brisbane Broncos at AAMI Park in Melbourne. The Storm have had an easier ride to this stage of the season after beating the Parramatta Eels in the first week of the finals. The Broncos on the other hand lost a close match against the Sydney Roosters, meaning they had to overcome the Penrith Panthers at Suncorp Stadium last Friday. It promises to be an intense semi-final between first and third from the regular season ladder.
In the Aviva Premiership, Gloucester host Worcester at Kingsholm. Gloucester ran out 55-19 winners the last time the teams met. It's day two of the USPGA Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Course in Atlanta, Georgia. Gilberto Ramirez takes on Jesse Hart in a WBO super-middleweight bout at the Tucson Convention Center in Arizona. In Bergen, the UCI World Championships continue with the Junior Women and Under-23 Men Road Races.
