Event of the Day: UCI Road World Championships

Our event of the day…

is the Men’s Elite Individual Time Trial of the UCI Road World Championships in Bergen, Norway. The course is 31km in total with the final 3.4km a steep incline up Mount Fløyen. Britain’s Chris Froome comes into the event in fine form having won the Tour de France and Vuelta a España this year, however he will have the disadvantage of not having specific training for the event with his other commitments. With many of the world’s best cyclists competing and the addition of a bike change area for the first time due to the climb at the end of the race, it’s going to be an enthralling day of cycling.

There have been some stellar performances yesterday in the build-up to today’s Men’s Time Trial. Tom Pidcock of Great Britain impressed in the Junior Men’s Time Trial, winning by 12 seconds with Italy’s Antonio Puppio coming second. Filip Maciejuk of Poland came third, only one second behind Puppio. It was an historic day for the Netherlands in the Elite Women’s Time Trial as they claimed gold and silver thanks to Annemiek van Vleuten and Anna van der Breggen. It’s expected to be just as exciting today.

Honourable mentions…

around the globe go to the latest round of fixtures in the Carabao Cup. There’s the possibility for a giant-killing at Old Trafford as Burton Albion (currently 19th in the Championship) travel to the Theatre of Dreams to take on Manchester United.

In County Championship Cricket, newly-crowned champions Essex are playing Hampshire at Ageas Bowl in Southampton. In a break from their fine form this season Essex are struggling having closed the first day on 33 for 5. In MLB, there are 15 games  with the clash between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Kansas City Royals at the Rogers Centre in Toronto as the pick of the games.

Whatever you’re watching, enjoy!
