Event of the Day: England v South Africa

Our event of the day...

is day 1 of the fourth and final test match between England and South Africa at Old Trafford. After victory at the Oval on Monday gave the hosts a 2-1 lead over the Proteas, Joe Root's side will take an impressive series win if they’re able to avoid defeat in Manchester. South Africa, however, will be desperate to level the series, as they travel to Old Trafford for the first time in a test match since a gripping draw with England in 1998.

Wet weather in Manchester has disrupted preparations for the test match, with both teams forced to train indoors this week. The England side is likely to remain the same as the team from the victorious Oval Test. South Africa also should remain unchanged, but will be boosted by Vernon Philander’s full recovery from illness, that hindered his bowling efforts in the third test. It should be a great day of cricket as this exciting series comes to a climax.

Honourable mentions...

around the globe go to day five of the ATP Citi Open in Washington, with men's singles round 16 games and women’s singles quarter-final matches. It is day two of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational with Belgian Thomas Pieters leading after shooting a five under first round. There is a big clash in the AFL with Geelong Cats hosting Sydney Swans. The NRL will see the Rabbitohs clash with the Dragons at the Sydney Cricket Ground and the Cowboys take on the Storm in Townsville in Queensland.

Whatever you’re watching, enjoy!
